Are you starting on your indoor garden? If yes, there is a chance that you didn’t have many tools like me when I started. I remember not having a single watering can; I used to water my plants using my own water bottle.
Then I realised I needed to buy some tools to care for my lovely garden. So today, I will talk about the tools I bought as a beginner.
Let’s talk about them. Before I start, please read my article for beginners on Cactus choices and choose wisely for your garden.
Gloves:
At first, I bought gloves. Because you need to make fertilisers for plants, which can be your waste food or eggshells, it’s better to save your hands by using gloves.
I bought two pairs of gloves that nicely fit my hands. Buying oversized or small-sized gloves is not a good idea.
Tips for buying : Gloves should be durable and not too bulky, especially if you want to work with seeds or transplant seedlings.
Hand Trowel:
The second tool I bought was a hand trowel. A mini or medium-sized hand trowel is okay for an indoor garden. If you want to use it on your lawn as well, you may go for the big size.
But a mini-sized hand trowel is an excellent fit for an indoor garden. Before buying, pay close attention to the handle. It should feel comfortable in your hand.
You will use it for planting in containers, taking out weeds, etc. A broad blade is suitable for moving more soil, and a narrow blade is ideal for digging in rocky soil.
Tips for buying: A trowel with a stainless-steel head is more durable and will last longer.
Weeding Hoe:
A weeding hoe is very essential for an indoor garden, but not a big one. As a beginner, you need a small weeding hoe.
It will help you get rid of stubborn roots and break up hard-packed soil. This is an essential tool for a beginner.
Tips for buying: Try to get one with steel-mounted teeth and a comfortable wood handle. It will last long.
Pruning Shears:
I’ve already talked about the tools you need for soil and fertilizers. Now, pruning shears is on my list.
When you start your garden, you will see some damaged leaves, sub-branches, etc. You will need pruning shears to take care of damaged plants.
Tips for buying: As this is for an indoor garden, take small or medium-sized pruning shears.
Spray Bottle:
Spray bottles are not an option; they are necessary for indoor gardens. As a beginner or a pro, you will experience pests and bugs.
We need to spray some medicine occasionally to get rid of these pests and bugs. We cannot afford to have pests inside our room.
Tips for buying: Spray bottles are typically made of plastic. Take a medium one, but make sure that the spray pipe is long enough to reach the bottom of the bottle.
These are the five tools I bought as a beginner for my tiny indoor garden. With these five tools, you can take care of a whole indoor garden.
In the end, I just want to share my experience with you so that you can grow your garden, too. Please do not buy lots of tools initially and lose your money.
Gardening is a slow and healthy process. Slowly and gradually, we grow as pro gardeners. Remember that.
That’s all for today. Happy planting!
