Back in 2020, most people focused on gardening during the lockdown. When the world shut down, people were bored staying home and felt a shortage of fresh produce. Besides that, many people, like my friend Tasu, have set up their own indoor gardens.
Plants require a lot of attention. Tasu was happy to set up her own indoor garden, but she also made some mistakes.
Last Friday, while having a chit-chat with Tasu about our gardens, we discussed these mistakes that Tasu made as a beginner.
Well, a lot of people also make the same mistakes. Today, I will discuss five mistakes to avoid when setting up your indoor garden as a beginner.
Let’s go!
Selected Hardiest Plants:
When picking plants for an indoor garden, we often need to remember to consider ourselves beginners. Choosing a plant that needs sensitive care can prevent us from failing as beginners. For the first time, we should pick easy-care plants to get used to and learn about. For example, try to avoid getting a bonsai as your first plant.
Rare and unique plants need compassionate care. It feels good to have some rare plants in our garden, but they can also harm it.
Over planting:
Some people plant too much when they start setting up their indoor gardens. Planting too much often leads to a damaged garden.
Plants also need space; if you think about decoration, growing less doesn’t result in a beautiful garden.Remember that you are planting an indoor garden. Small or medium spaces don’t require 100 plants.
Plant as needed. Do not over-plant.
Schedule of Care:
Once we have a garden, we must pay constant attention. Yes, we do, but we often need to remember to make a schedule. Over-caring can damage the entire garden before you know it.
Most indoor plants do not require daily care. Some of them need water only once a week. Caring too much or too little can damage your garden. Care for them as needed.
Bugs & Pests:
Pests and bugs attack both outdoor and indoor gardens, and they spread faster in indoor spaces. As beginners, the most significant mistake gardeners make is not paying attention to pests or not knowing how harmful they can be.
Often, beginners need to recognise pests at first or take any precautions. Before planting, we know about the pests that can attack and damage our garden.
Picking a Place:
Most people want to have an indoor garden on their balcony. It’s a good choice, but when it comes to the rainy season, heavy rain can damage the plants, and in winter, snow can harm plant growth.
Select a place that will prevent over watering and snow or allow plants to have direct sunlight but not too much. It’s better to have a place facing south.
We are close to ending our discussion. Tasu and I noted these five mistakes that beginners often make. List these five and make sure you avoid them.
Setting up a nice indoor garden can be a dream come true—for me, too. After avoiding these mistakes, Tasu has a nice indoor garden.
Gardening has many challenges; I just mentioned the five most common ones my friend faced. Avoid these and set up your indoor garden.
Happy Planting!
