No Sunlight? No Problem! Best 5 Plants for Dark Spaces

I’ll be honest with you, when I started gardening, I always wanted to have plants that don’t need sunlight. Plants that requires no sunlight.

Gardening wasn’t easy for me at first. Plants need care to grow happily. I chose some plants I didn’t need initially. Today, I’m going to share some plants that do not need sunlight.

These plants usually grow on the shady forest floor and have adapted to thrive without direct sunlight.

Let’s dive in

Cast Iron Plant:

Cast Iron, No sunlight , Indoor plant without sunlight One of the best plants that can grow in a dark place or without sunlight is the cast iron plant. Because of its easy care and ability to grow without sunlight, it has become widespread as an indoor plant to fill the darkest side of the garden.

This plant has green leaves and a beautifully waxy texture, making it an excellent plant for the region. It can be potted in a deep shade spot and kept in the darkest corner.

Requirements: It can grow in the dark & no sunlight needed but sometimes needs care. Keep a good drainage system. It is like neutral soil, not too wet and not too dry.

Lucky Bamboo:

Lucky Bamboo, No sunlight , Indoor plant without sunlight If you’re lucky, you should have lucky bamboo in your house. But don’t believe the myth that “lucky bamboo brings good fortune.” It doesn’t.

However, you should keep lucky bamboo if you want a plant that can grow without sunlight. Lucky bamboo doesn’t like direct sunlight; it prefers darkness, no sunlight or low sunlight to grow.

It looks like a bonsai bamboo. You can keep this in direct water if you want.

Requirements: Lucky bamboo can grow directly in water, making it perfect for an office environment. But if you plant it in the soil, water it properly.

Calathea:

Calathea,No sunlight , Indoor plant without sunlight Also known as the peacock plant for its colourful foliage, calathea is easy to grow and has a reputation as a greenhouse plant. It prefers to stay indoors & no sunlight needed.

They need a warm environment to grow at their best, so an indoor garden is the perfect place for them.

However, if you want to have a calathea, you need to be careful because they need a lot of attention. They only grow to about 2 feet long and wide on average, so they fit perfectly inside the home.

The leaves of calathea move throughout the day and fold at night. Amazing, right?

Requirements: Calathea prefers humusy soil. Try to pot calathea in a lightweight pot with good air circulation.

Dumb Canes:

Dumb Canes,No sunlight , Indoor plant without sunlight The plant name is funny, but it’s not dumb. For my fourth pick, I chose dumb canes because they are easy to get and are a popular indoor plant that grows without sunlight even in no sunlight.

Dumb canes take up more space than other plants but look nice at home. They can grow in low light and don’t need much care.

Although they are easy to grow, if you have pets or children, you should skip them. They are toxic to pets.

Requirements: Water them twice a week, but make sure the soil is not too dry or wet. Better to keep them in a corner. Not recommended if you have pets

Kalanchoe:

Kalanchoe,No sunlight , Indoor plant without sunlight If you are a flower lover, this should be your first purchase. Little flowers will make your soul happy every day if you keep them in your home.

They prefer a warm environment as they are native to Africa. They will grow no more than 40 cm, making them a perfect choice for indoor plants.

Kalanchoe blooms in indirect sunlight. You may keep it in direct sunlight, but it will take longer to bloom.

Dark places or indirect sunlight (even no sunlight) are better for kalanchoe to grow and bloom accordingly.

Requirements: No need to water every day. Check the soil before watering and keep out of direct sunlight. Better to keep in the living room to increase beauty.

I chose plants that almost don’t need sunlight or no sunlight and can quickly grow in your darkest place. The five plants I chose are easy to get and care for.
