Overwatering can damage plant roots. I have heard many stories since I started gardening. Gardening requires time and effort to achieve a great interface. Well, overwatering is not good for anything. Overwatering and over-fertilizing can damage all your efforts.
After facing many problems while gardening, I am here to share some benefits of using pebbles. Primarily, it will help your plant avoid overwatering and provide many other benefits.
Drainage & Aeration:
The primary advantage of using pebbles is that it increases water drainage and promotes aeration. If pebbles are placed at the bottom of the pot or mixed with soil, they create small air pockets. This allows excess water to drain away, preventing damage to plant roots. Additionally, aeration helps maintain healthy moisture levels in the soil. Using pebbles at the bottom of the pot is actually good for our plants.
Soil Erosion:
Soil erosion is a big problem for plants. Heavy rain or strong winds can increase soil erosion in your outdoor garden. If you use pebbles, they will prevent erosion and act as a protective layer. Pebbles will cover the upper level of soil and create a barrier that shields the underlying soil from heavy raindrops. Minimizing erosion is essential for maintaining a healthy garden.
Pest Resistance:
Pebbles do not attract pests or tiny animals like ants. So using pebbles in your plant pot can help get rid of pests and ants primarily. It cannot resist all pests, but it can help us out in the first stage.
Decoration:
A gardener always wants to decorate their garden. It’s a dream of a gardener to have a nice, decorative garden like a picture-perfect one. So, pebbles help them create that. They are also cost-effective and have good longevity; you don’t need to change them regularly.
Now, the question arises: how can we use pebbles in our indoor plant pots? Well, there is no particular way to do that, but I will share what I do for my garden,
- Select the pot size; make sure you select at least a medium pot size, as small or tiny pots don’t work well.
- Place the pebbles at the bottom to create airflow, then use soil or any other fertilizer you want to
- If you want to keep that plant near any sunlight or office table area where decoration matters, then use pebbles at the upper layer of the pot. It will cover the soil and create a posh, elegant plant vibe
- Make sure to use the right size of pebbles; medium and small sizes of pebbles are good for indoor plant decoration
